I am a guided meditation and hypnotherapy enthusiast and found this app somewhat lacking. I never felt like I got into a meditative state, and the visualizations felt a little silly.
I found myself feeling more anxious bc the meditations were so long and, because I didn’t love them, I felt like I should have done my usual morning routine.
This may be good if you’re completely new to guided meditations but just isn’t working for me.
Customer service is prompt and thoughtful so I am happy about that.

I enjoyed the first couple of weeks but the repetitiveness of the hypnotherapy sessions got to me and kept me from completing the program. I realize they have a reason for repeating sessions but it wasn’t helpful for me because I no longer looked forward to the hypnotherapy portion. It just became annoying and boring having to visualize and hear the same hypnotherapy sessions each week. I did do the readings which were insightful. The app did help as far as my symptoms now being more manageable because I am able to implement some of the techniques such as visualization and deep breathing. However, this program for me was not worth almost $70. I ended up becoming completely uninvolved after such a short time and, aside from the readings, wasted over half of the subscription (my stats are showing only 2 weeks fully completed and it dropped weekly from there as I lost interest).

I am finding that I am wonderfully relaxed by the part at the start. It reminds me of the Yoga Nidra that I practice. And then I started the visualisation of the beach. Next thing I knew i was imagining myself sleeping in one year from now. That happened in Session 2 as well. I feel lovely and relaxed and positive but feel as though I should return to it later to see what I missed. I tried sitting up today but I am so used to lying down for the yoga that it felt really unnatural and I decided to lie down. Maybe I will listen again later and sit up to see if I stay more conscious. I think this is helping. I slept better and although I woke a couple of times, I got back to sleep quickly. My mild symptoms yesterday improved last night and I have felt more energetic and positive this morning
Thank you!

Not sure if I am Hypnotized or sleeping
I relax fine but then have periods where I don’t hear the speaker talking. Does this mean I am falling asleep? I don’t feel tired when I listen to the session but I do really relax. Will I get benefit if I don’t hear sections?

Good app, we’ll designed and presented, but didn’t give me the results I wanted.
The app tries to cater for the very broad range of ibs symptoms so I think I found it hard to relate to the sessions as they referred to symptoms which simply don’t apply to me or are the polar opposite of my experience. Would have been better to have an ibs d or ibs c option to ensure that the sessions are more tailor made to your profile.
With only six sessions repeated, it does get a bit tedious too. I’m sure that there is merit to the repetition, but ultimately they become harder to engage with when you feel like you could repeat the session yourself verbatim.

I love this app! I have SIBO, not IBS, but it has still helped me de-stress and has improved symptoms. Unfortunately, it’s SO expensive. I’m already shelling out what is essentially the cost of another mortgage each month for doctors visits, supplements, etc, so as useful as this is I just can’t do it. Wish some of the resources out there for GI issues were more budget-friendly!

Very informative readings, the voice sessions are nice and relaxing but don't help my IBS. Seems a little pricey for what it is but I guess it helps some other people.

I’ve been using the app for the free trial and have signed up and paid for 3 months as I can see how this might start helping my IBS, which I’ve had for 16 years. I wouldn’t put a price on a treatment that actually works, however I think the app is overpriced for what it does. It’s 6 recorded hypnotherapies that you listen to over 6 days, and repeat. There is also some information about IBS - which if you’ve suffered as long as I have, will all be stuff you know.
Personally, I think they could be helping a lot more people if they reduced the price. It’s currently £47 for 3 months! Most expensive app I’ve ever signed up for. Also, why not have more membership options? £12 for 1 month, £33 for 3 months, £60 for 6 months ? I think more people would try it and stick to it, and that’s the pay format most health apps use!

“IT WILL BE AS IF...YOU ARE IN A DREAM. In this dream...” After the free week trial I assumed that there would be a variety of sessions. I was wrong. The user is guided through the same four sessions, over and over and over, for 6 weeks. The only variety is the little text blurb. The sheer boredom of imagining myself in a pharmacy, on a veranda, on a swing, and looking at mountains made doing a session feel like a chore by a few weeks in, as well as caused my mind to wander during sessions. Think there is some really good cognitive behavioral training here, but ideally it would be less brutally dull to sit through day by day after a few weeks. Gotta be a hugely profitable app for the developers given that they recorded 4 sessions and wrote a bunch of short blurbs for almost $100 a pop - that’s a scalable business! “YOU’RE JUST GOING TO GET BETTAH...AND BETTAH...AND BETTAH...all of the time.”

What I can comment on is, every time I get I to the relaxed state, the app crashes (every day) and I have to restart the whole thing again and skip to as close to the place I was. Which kind of defeats the purpose of feeling relaxed.
The first 2 weeks seemed to be fine and I was really enjoying it. But haven’t been able to get into the relaxed state again because of the crashing.

The informational sections were pretty basic, and I would have liked to have more different recordings, or at least the option to move ahead sooner. I overall enjoyed the meditations, but they would be better if they were more descriptive- I would find myself trying to figure out the transitions, which was distracting (like how did I get to the river in the distance in just a few steps?). What I’m really upset about right now is that I was charged $75 for an auto-renewal I didn’t know about. I thought I had just signed up for 3 months!!

I’m 3 1/2 weeks in and it’s already helping improve my severe, lifelong IBS. However, I don’t see why they only offer a 1 year subscription ($179 CA) but don’t publish it as an audio book. The program is just short readings and short audio recordings. Charging 10 or 25 bucks for an audio book version would make it far more accessible.
Yes, the 1-year program has support available. I’ve tried it out and was disappointed. They basically gave me the same info you see in the readings, which is basically the same info you see in the ads. Though I agree with said info, it feels like it gets repeated ad nauseam: “Hypnotherapy works, here’s why, etc.”
There’s more useful info than just that, but it’s stuff I’ve previously read and learnt through other programs* & audiobooks* that were cheap or free.
Still, I would give Nerva 3 1/2 stars if I could. The only reason it’s not 5 is the high price point.
My suggestion for users? Start the free trial, record all the hypnotherapy sessions you can, read all the readings you can, and cancel the subscription. Listen to the sessions for six weeks like they recommend, and only then decide whether the full year would be worth it for you.
* Programs like group therapy for IBS, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (my fav) and meditation.
* Audiobooks like ‘When the Body Says No’ by Dr Maté, and ‘Get Out of Your Mind & Into Your Life’ by Dr Hayes (my fav—tho I should recommend it’s better as a book rather than an audiobook)

Updated in week 4: I discussed it with my primary care physician, and we decided that it is not for me. Hypnotherapy did not make me regular. It made my system go all over the place. So it did have an effect. I just don’t like the effect that it had. I would rather visit the restroom every day even if it’s multiple times rather than skipping days because my body would then go haywire and I was really sick to catch things up.
Updated in week 3. Maybe this app isn’t for me. She’s now repeating the visualizations too. I’m not an outdoorsy type person. Imagining I’m clearing my way through overgrown brush or bathing in a hot spring of mineral waters gives me anxiety. It does NOT relax me at all. I’m finding myself skipping parts of the repeated sessions or verbally disagreeing out loud with the “narrator”. I think I wasted my money. Is it too much to ask for fresh material every day?
Original review: I like the app and the idea of gut-related hypnotherapy. I just wish the same verbal prompts weren’t repeated at the same points in the session every day. It’s distracting in that I’m repeating what she’s saying along with her. I have the “text” memorized. Only the visualization portion changes each day so far (I have done 7 days of it). I’m not sure whether to subscribe for the full year or not, but I am seeing some benefits. Repetitive prompts and wording are why I stopped using the headspace meditation app. He said the same thing every day, and I wasn’t focusing - I was repeating the words along with him. Only a small portion of his program changed. I went to using Calm for meditation because she changes it every day. She doesn’t say the same words over and over again. Nerva subscription is expensive. I’m hoping she doesn’t say the same thing every day for six weeks.

I think this is a great idea and fantastic that it exists as an app as in-person hypnotherapy isn’t available to all & pricier. While I like the concept and the accompanying articles, I find that the sessions could be improved.
1) The starting relaxation comes in different formats - the first week it’s a body scanned relaxation, then others are added like counting breaths or sensory dimming (not sure what it’s actually called now). I wish there was a way to choose for oneself after trying them all which beginning to have each day. Personally, the only one that seems to work for me well is the progressive relaxation body scan. The others I find useless so I get really impatient, which beats the purpose… they should also realise that once you’ve had one kind of relaxation, there’s no need to repeat “you could do this by… (giving examples)”
2) The middle part/visualisation starts to be reused from week 2. By week 5 there have been three repetitions I think. I am not a fan of this, because some of them I didn’t enjoy so much so at the start I already presume that this isn’t gonna be a great session.
2) The reused ending starting with “positive changes are happening” is often louder than the previous recording. A few sessions’ middle part end in “positive/healthy changes are happening” just to be followed by the same phrase again, making it seem poorly put together.
4) I’m at the end of week 5 now; I have had some improvements the past week, however, this coincided with a holiday, so we’ll see if the changes stick once I’m back home. To be updated.
