Having had considerable benefit from a FODMAPS diet, I was hoping to get further improvements with hypnotherapy. Although the written material and tips were good, I could not relate to the hypnotherapy sessions. They were repetitive and the confused imagery suggested by the therapist was irritating.
I would have preferred a range of voices and a greater variety of hypnotherapy sessions.

The only reason I’m giving it 2 starts are the readings, they helped me to understand IBS better. I understand that there’s no one size fits all with IBS treatment maybe it hasn’t worked for me because I’m meditating anyway and it didn’t have much impact?

Neat idea and I’m sure it can help somewhat if done daily for longer periods of time, but it’s imho vastly overpriced, especially as the app keeps you paying forever.

If this would be available as a one-time purchase at an appropriate price, I might get it. But this model does not work for me.

Firstly, I was a little disappointed at how the trial system worked. It seems formatted so that in order to complete the course, you end up paying for an extra two weeks after it’s done without any use from it. Supposedly there is a maintenance. Afterward, but there is no direction on how to use this. The app is already on my phone, but I must pay full price to have access to any of the exercises. The exercises are on a group of about six different situation‘s, this is explained to be on purpose for efficacy but it sounds like it is just a short cut on content.

Also you assumed I opted in and charged my credit card I’m extremely annoyed about this please refund my money immediately. Your program did not work for me as I’d hoped it would.

While I do like the 20 minute sessions, I did not realize I was paying this much to listen to the same ones over and over. I don’t find the reading info that great. It always seems to say ‘next week we will go deeper into it’.

Nice and relaxing but poor value for money
Admittedly this app is cheaper than seeing a hypnotherapist face to face but it’s still unreachable for those on a limited budget. It is a shame they don’t offer monthly subscriptions. It is very relaxing but sadly doesn’t do much for my symptoms.

This is good content. I would say slightly above average effectiveness. But to charge $70 every three months to listen to the same six 20 minute long recordings is ludicrous. There’s no new content. I would legit pay $10/mo for this. That’s $120 a year they could get from me. But instead I will pay nothing and go elsewhere. Lol seriously tho, the price is almost offensive. Audacity on sale but not this subscription.
On a side note, the price point has been all over the map too. I feel like every time I check they’re charging a different amount. Sometimes it’s way less, now it’s spiked again. Classic start-up indecision and waffling

When I tried the sample trial week, I thought I was accessing a sample of the meditations and readings offered through the app. But no - it turns out that’s basically all there is. The readings are short and not very informative. The meditations are fine, but hearing the same ones week after week does not increase their helpfulness. And worst of all, $149 is an absurdly high price to pay for something that has not made that much of a difference in my life. I don’t often regret spending money on things but this $149 remains some of the most regrettable money I have spent.

I bumped up the rating from one star to two, because it certainly is an interesting approach and evidently works for some though not for me. Not sure a paid smartphone app is the safest way to try it out, considering what's at stake for the purchaser.
Response to developer:
Yes four days may be too short a trial, but I suspect not many people are going to pay down £50 on the off-chance that the app will stop making them feel worse and make them feel better. So I suspect that delivering the therapy through a high-priced app means that only those who feel better during the free trial are likely to continue. Regarding the studies you mention: I would be interested to read them. Can you respond here, giving the authors/titles? As others may also be interested in looking the studies up (using a search engine). Thanks.

I have struggled with IBS symptoms for over 12 years. I have tried therapy, medication, yoga, meditation, every test the doctor can provide, etc. I’ve tried so many treatments with minimal relief, therefore when I came across an ad for Nerva, I knew I didn’t have much to lose and decided to give it a try.
I completed the first session of the program and was excited about the hypnotherapy I had undergone, however, the excitement faded as I continued to experience discomfort, even during my sessions. I decided to purchase and complete the program to see if time and repetition would change anything. The app seemed to have good reviews and suggest that a wealth of info was included so I decided the price was worth it, especially if it worked. Unfortunately, the only thing that changed throughout the program was the amount of energy I had after each session. Although I did learn better breathing and relaxation techniques, my symptoms did not subside or decrease in any way. Most of the information provided was info that I had already read over and over online. This may work for some people, but even being a very receptive and open individual, desperate for relief, I did not find this approach to be of any real benefit.

I found the entire Nerva program extremely unsatisfying. I often found myself stressed and angry as a result of doing a session, especially when it explained how calm I should be feeling, when I fact I was actually feeling pain and extra anxiety/stress from doing a session and being unable to feel the things I was being told to feel. I have small children and a busy life, and often I found myself not having time to do a session for 3-4 days, often doing it too late in the evening and wanting it to be faster or feeling obligated and not in the right headspace for a session, ending sessions in anger and frustration and not being able to relax. The way the app is designed is it assumes you do it every day, so if you skip days it feels like you have to catch up, or feel like you missed important sessions. I found zero benefit to my symptoms, not a single difference, even when I managed to do the sessions regularly for a two week period. I feel like it was a complete waste of money and I am angry I spent so much on no benefit. It needs to adapted to more busy people and be designed in a way that doesn’t require commitment to do it every day, including the app design/structure. The sessions themselves shouldn’t talk so explicitly about how someone should be feeling, as people like me who weren’t feeling that way feel like they are doing it wrong or have something wrong with their brain. It’s hard to not take the instructions literally. Needs more disclaimers in the sessions that feeling certain ways is ok. I’m incredibly disappointed. I ended up giving up and not doing most of the program and feeling like I wasted my money. The only benefit I got from it was having a holistic view of myself focusing on my body and stress and how it relates to my IBS, which is saving it from a one star review. I must be an outlier in the 20% who don’t find the benefit, I also think perhaps my brain does not suit hypnotherapy, I couldn’t shake the feeling the whole time that it was not scientific and not going to work despite working extremely hard to be positive and not skeptical. :(

Hi fellow IBS sufferers! You might have given in to a sponsored ad on your social media - how do they get us? - and decided to try out Nerva. This is my own experience after 4 weeks of Nerva, before unfortunately giving up. I’m a big sceptic by nature but wanted to try yet another potential therapy to cure my IBS-D which I’ve had for about 10 years +. First thing, don’t know much about hypnotherapy but I’d say this app is lazy: they play you the exact same recordings every week! What is the point of paying for the subscription? You might as well record the scenarios with your phone during your free trial then play them again for the following 5 weeks and save yourself £50. They ask you at the beginning what type of IBS you suffer from, as if they’re going to personalise the stories to you. This is not happening, everyone gets the same thing. So I keep hearing “you’re going to empty your bowels easily and effortlessly” despite the fact that I suffer from diarrhoea everyday. I read an article online saying the app got an investment of £1 million. Really? That’s the price for 6 recordings? The voice actress must be Meryl Street (I wish). The positive points are some of the readings they post everyday: it starts with common things you know already as an IBS sufferer but eventually brings up interesting thoughts and concepts so worth a read. I’m afraid hypnotherapy didn’t work on me and I’d rather have 15mn meditation instead. Thanks anyway to the people who created the app as i appreciate that there’s a big need for more tailored solution for IBS and I do hope that it helped others.

Does Nerva work?
Nerva is a self-guided gut-directed hypnotherapy program that works with the gut–brain connection. Reviews describe individual experiences; clinical research looks at outcomes across a group. Can I use Nerva alongside a low FODMAP diet?
