I’m on day 5. My first 4 sessions gave me an opportunity to look within myself and address my anxiety issues. I’m stoked to listen to my recording this evening and reflect on what tonight’s lesson teaches me. My gut struggles have been lessened significantly. Not that I don’t have to watch what I eat but I can now eat without fear. That’s after 4 sessions. Mentally I feel stronger, I have excellent natural supports at home as well, which has also been a great help. At this point I highly recommend that anyone who has gut issues to give the program a try. I know there are no guarantees, but when I saw that Monash also supports this program it gave me the confidence to give it a try. I had read some information regarding the gut brain connection; once I looked more into this I was able to appreciate the science behind this program as well. I feel to be successful you have to be honest with yourself and seriously look within and address your emotional shortcomings. Best wishes to all of you who have similar struggles.

I’ve found this app very helpful in managing my gut symptoms. In particular, it does a great job of breaking the symptom-stress cycle which was definitely exacerbating my symptoms. It’s such a shame that the program is so expensive as I can’t afford to keep using it. I think it’s very unfair to keep charging $99 every three months, particularly for those who could benefit from long term use. The cost makes the program inaccessible to so many sufferers. I would happily rate the program 5 stars if it was more affordable.

I found the app to be very helpful building a habit of daily calming meditation. I appreciated the different types of relaxation methods, breathing techniques and the information on IBS. After seeming treatment for years, this was the first time I had heard any of these topics.
Using this app taught me in a very concrete way the roll of stress in many aspects of my health, including IBS.
My hope is for this app to become available to more individuals who need this kind of support. I am lucky that I am able to purchase a three money subscription but not able to afford this kind of payment moving forward. Sadly when the three months are up I will be stopping my subscription.

Helps Some Things, not others
While this app is really good at helping deal with anxiety, it unfortunately doesn’t stop gut bacteria from fermenting your food. Look into other reasons you may have digestive issues, such as SIBO, Celiac, and biliary insufficiency.

I am a guided meditation and hypnotherapy enthusiast and found this app somewhat lacking. I never felt like I got into a meditative state, and the visualizations felt a little silly.
I found myself feeling more anxious bc the meditations were so long and, because I didn’t love them, I felt like I should have done my usual morning routine.
This may be good if you’re completely new to guided meditations but just isn’t working for me.
Customer service is prompt and thoughtful so I am happy about that.

The reading about gut/brain connection was helpful as were some of the tips to handling physical symptoms when they cause anxiety. The hypnotherapy was repetitive. Using the negative symptom descriptions too much instead of positive “more consistency, less sensations, more comfort, more confident, etc”. I found myself OCD’ing over my symptoms all day long trying to tell my self their words. When I stopped the therapy, I relaxed quite a bit. Not to mention it says “6 weeks” but you have to commit to three months.

I love this app! I have SIBO, not IBS, but it has still helped me de-stress and has improved symptoms. Unfortunately, it’s SO expensive. I’m already shelling out what is essentially the cost of another mortgage each month for doctors visits, supplements, etc, so as useful as this is I just can’t do it. Wish some of the resources out there for GI issues were more budget-friendly!

Updated in week 4: I discussed it with my primary care physician, and we decided that it is not for me. Hypnotherapy did not make me regular. It made my system go all over the place. So it did have an effect. I just don’t like the effect that it had. I would rather visit the restroom every day even if it’s multiple times rather than skipping days because my body would then go haywire and I was really sick to catch things up.
Updated in week 3. Maybe this app isn’t for me. She’s now repeating the visualizations too. I’m not an outdoorsy type person. Imagining I’m clearing my way through overgrown brush or bathing in a hot spring of mineral waters gives me anxiety. It does NOT relax me at all. I’m finding myself skipping parts of the repeated sessions or verbally disagreeing out loud with the “narrator”. I think I wasted my money. Is it too much to ask for fresh material every day?
Original review: I like the app and the idea of gut-related hypnotherapy. I just wish the same verbal prompts weren’t repeated at the same points in the session every day. It’s distracting in that I’m repeating what she’s saying along with her. I have the “text” memorized. Only the visualization portion changes each day so far (I have done 7 days of it). I’m not sure whether to subscribe for the full year or not, but I am seeing some benefits. Repetitive prompts and wording are why I stopped using the headspace meditation app. He said the same thing every day, and I wasn’t focusing - I was repeating the words along with him. Only a small portion of his program changed. I went to using Calm for meditation because she changes it every day. She doesn’t say the same words over and over again. Nerva subscription is expensive. I’m hoping she doesn’t say the same thing every day for six weeks.

I signed up for this on the Rec from my doc after bad stomach post food poisoning. I didn’t have any of the symptoms in their initial survey- no bloating wind belly pain anxiety depression worry constipation or diarrhea. I guess I should be glad it’s a single symptom. I had paid so decided to try it anyway. The visualization exercises were nice enough the lady’s voice calming and several times I fell right to sleep. Others listened all the way through. After six weeks my body hasn’t changed and I answered the survey questions honestly again. No change. And yet they said congratulations you have improved 86%. If that’s the kind of “science” this is based on I’d call it fraud. Becuz NO APP, nothing whatsoever has changed. However if u have these symptoms it could in fact work. And the exercises might help u sleep at night. So there’s that.

Nor did I have anxiety hopelessness or worry. If you have these things it might be helpful. The lady’s voice is very calming and visualizations are nice. Hilariously even though I rated none of those symptoms from day one for the full six weeks they said I improved by 86%. If this is what they consider science then it’s not much better than snake oil. But still worth a shot.

But for me the relaxation visualizations were silly and repetitive. there’s also some good practical information in the readings but it is all very basic stuff available elsewhere that I knew having this disease for many years So it could be good for some one newly diagnosed with mild ibs but it didn’t help me.

I had very high hopes for this App but on week two the app locked me out and showed I completed the program, which I did not.
Support was not very good and I learned you basically get 6 weeks no matter how many of the sessions you listened to….
I was able to get the app working again after several back and forth emails (no phone support) and to be honest the stress of this kind of turned me off.
I feel like this app is more about the money than healing. Like I mentioned 6 weeks doesn’t matter how many sessions you do and you can’t go back to read the other part of the session. I was doing these at night so missed all the reading.
The silly part was I kept getting emails from Nerva telling me how great I was doing. So automatic emails that know nothing of where you are on the program.
I did like some of the sessions but quickly learned most are a copy and paste on the relaxation part which was annoying since this app is not cheap.
I do believe there is potential here but until the app is constructed toward the user and not geared toward a “keep you paying model” wasn’t really impressed.
More annoying you have to keep paying if you want to listen to them again.
Then at the end you are expected to pay for a maintenance program…..hmmmmmm No Thanks!

One better be well versed in psycho babble to use this app. It rushes you through the same meditations in an annoying voice and almost assumes you have a background in meditation. The meditations go fast, I never feel anything but annoyed and the only helpful tool I’ve gotten has been learning to belly breathe. This is an especially difficult app to use if you have chronic pain &/or anxiety.

I enjoyed many of the sessions as I found them relaxing. Some were better than others. But there has been absolutely no change in my IBS symptoms. I think if someone has symptoms related to anxiety this may be more beneficial.

I found the entire Nerva program extremely unsatisfying. I often found myself stressed and angry as a result of doing a session, especially when it explained how calm I should be feeling, when I fact I was actually feeling pain and extra anxiety/stress from doing a session and being unable to feel the things I was being told to feel. I have small children and a busy life, and often I found myself not having time to do a session for 3-4 days, often doing it too late in the evening and wanting it to be faster or feeling obligated and not in the right headspace for a session, ending sessions in anger and frustration and not being able to relax. The way the app is designed is it assumes you do it every day, so if you skip days it feels like you have to catch up, or feel like you missed important sessions. I found zero benefit to my symptoms, not a single difference, even when I managed to do the sessions regularly for a two week period. I feel like it was a complete waste of money and I am angry I spent so much on no benefit. It needs to adapted to more busy people and be designed in a way that doesn’t require commitment to do it every day, including the app design/structure. The sessions themselves shouldn’t talk so explicitly about how someone should be feeling, as people like me who weren’t feeling that way feel like they are doing it wrong or have something wrong with their brain. It’s hard to not take the instructions literally. Needs more disclaimers in the sessions that feeling certain ways is ok. I’m incredibly disappointed. I ended up giving up and not doing most of the program and feeling like I wasted my money. The only benefit I got from it was having a holistic view of myself focusing on my body and stress and how it relates to my IBS, which is saving it from a one star review. I must be an outlier in the 20% who don’t find the benefit, I also think perhaps my brain does not suit hypnotherapy, I couldn’t shake the feeling the whole time that it was not scientific and not going to work despite working extremely hard to be positive and not skeptical. :(
