Hypnotherapy sessions are gut directed and relaxing. They provide specific suggestions on how your body is healing itself. I’m only in week 3 so I’m not sure if things are working yet; but even if they don’t, I’m getting a relaxing meditation-like session each day which is good for my body and brain. The customer service is amazing. I’ve reached out to Alex probably five times with questions and he’s always replied, sometimes even on the weekends. I know that they really want this app to work for people. The price is also very reasonable if you consider that seeing a Hypnotherapist usually is not covered by insurance and will cost $100-$200 per session.

I was a bit hesitant about purchasing this but I am so glad I did! IBS was severely unpairing my every day life before this app and I am now significantly better and can go about my life again and am no longer losing many nights sleep to stomach pain! I wanted to wait until I had completed the programme to review it and I would say it has definitely been worth it and I will be continuing to do the sessions occasionally going forward
I can’t believe how quickly my IBS symptoms have gone! No more symptoms after only a week listening to the hypnotherapy sessions

I have very much enjoyed utilizing the app. I have never attempted hypnotherapy before so I wasn’t sure what to expect at first, but I have been pleased with the program and with the results I have seen so far. I have definitely noticed an improvement in my IBS symptoms. During the course of the day, without me even actively trying to remember what was said during a session, the hypnotist’s voice will suddenly be there in my head. I can definitely tell that my subconscious is processing what was said. IBS is incredibly frustrating, and I feel that this app is a very good tool to help me live with this condition. Thank you.
Nerva offers the possibility to get an innovative therapy (hypnosis based) without waiting months to get a doctor appointment. The listening sessions are powerful. Definitely worth a try!

Update: June 2026 Flares started up again early this year, I hadn’t used the app for a while but picked it up again in late Mar 2026. After just a few sessions my flare eased. I completed the program from start to finish in mid May and have been using 3-4 x week since. I’ve had only one flare during that time around week 4 that passed after 2 days and since then feeling very good with no substantial symptoms. I still avoid my high FODMAP trigger foods mist of the time, but don’t have to be as strict. When I start to feel discomfort coming on it tends to fade quickly and doesn’t escalate as it used to. This has worked better than anything else I’ve tried. ————- I first tried the Nerva app in March of 2024 when I was experiencing an IBS flare worse than I had in many years. The flare was undoubtedly caused by the stress of an in process international move where I was to start a new job. I saw an ad for the app and was skeptical, then read that Monash University was behind it and decided to give it a try. I didn’t expect much, but I saw a significant symptom production within the first week which I know it’s not common. But it did continue through the program and after. I stopped for the last few months and when another flare started. I went back to the program and again I’m experiencing a significant reduction of symptoms. I’ve been following a modified Low FODMAP diet, which also helps to an extent, but finding a more lasting effect and consistency with this program.
It was so relaxing that I fell asleep. ;)
This app has literally cured my years-long IBS. Sessions are a bliss. Very agreeable voice.

I was a bit skeptical at first in honesty. But I was so desperate willing to try anything. I was so bad with my stomach to the point where I was hospitalised a lot. And I have a lot of on going problems but honestly having stomach problems is unbearable. What I recommend to anyone trying this, is be open, read the information they give you. You must commit you must do it everyday. Make it a routine if you missed it in that time make it up and find time at some point in the day. I got to a really good stage but I fell really ill recently and was given antibiotics which really messed with my stomach lining. And then everything was triggering me so I’m back everyday now. I do recommend doing a blood test to find your allergies to see if there’s anything you can reduce even if you’re a bit allergic to it makes you more aware. I also think this app helps encourage you to be healthier and kinder to yourself. I know it feels expensive but omg so are pro and pre biotics, degas tablets, stomach spasm tablets (hyoscine butylbromide) herbal things, and not to mention any tablets your gp prescribes that til this day I don’t even know if they work do they do anything? I honestly think it’s worth it. I have taken a year to write this review because I wanted to make sure that if there was someone out there in the same position that I’m in then they get a good honest review. The healthy journey you’re on is hard, that’s what’s led you to my review and I just want you that this journey you’re on, you’re not alone and that you’re incredible for trying things to help yourself. That’s not easy, so firstly take a bow. And I hope that your pain eases, and so does your mind. You got this. You can find me if you need a chat via my username online 🤎 I’m not perfect and I have other health things to worry about but this is such a great tool to have in my life. Ps. If the app glitches and the sound isn’t coming on, you have to close and open the app if it still doesn’t work then your phone on and off it’s annoying but I think it’s to do with the phone and bother app hope that helps anyone I had to learn lol

This is my first week using Nerva Hypnosis. I started with doubts, having spent my whole life coping with IBS-D and searching for relief. I am an 84 year old retired trauma Informed mental health counselor. I am also a complex trauma survivor. During this first week I am noticing subtle changes in my conscious awareness of tension in my body and in my outlook on life. I am using breath many times during the day to relieve tension. I am also feeling a fragile sense of hope that I could feel better living with this body for the rest of my life❣️ I have been using NERVA hypnosis and breathing techniques for more than a year now. It has been a very challenging year for me at 85 and 1/2 years of age….many losses including my home and most of my belongings in Hurricane Helene. I use a hypnosis session every morning as my body awakens to tension and bowel activity. I seldom have explosive diarrhea anymore and for the first time in my life that I can remember, I experience regular formed bowel movements. I still have IBS symptoms during the day but am able to reassure myself that they are not a dangerous illness. Then I am able to cope with the symptoms with breathing and go on with my day. Eating is still a challenge as many foods in the USA exacerbate my symptoms. I have been using a plant based nutritional supplement from a company in California called Kate Farms which has helped me maintain my weight and soothes my digestive system. I am so grateful to have Nerva hypnosis sessions always available to help me cope with stress and anxiety in my everyday life. I can imagine using them also to ease my way through the dying process when that occurs for me. Thankyou NERVA❣️

I’m into the second week of this program and I am noticeably calmer, with less GI problems. I’ve been on the low FODMAP diet for almost 6 years. It has helped me immensely, by reducing my IBS symptoms of bloating, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Because of the success I have had with the low FODMAP diet, I totally trust Monash University, where the diet was developed. Knowing that Nerva was developed by the same people, I was very interested in what else they have come up with. This program is educating me about the fact that there is a level of healing possible beyond where I have gotten to with the diet. I am understanding that the essential issue is a hypersensitivity of my brain - gut nervous system, and that can be calmed with hypnotherapy and diaphragmatic deep breathing. The hypnotherapy sessions are 15 minutes long, and there is a new one every day. There are short things to read every day, to increase my understanding of what is possible. There is excellent email support. The 7 day free trial allowed me to check it out adequately before paying. I have a clear feeling now that I will be a new person by the end of the 6 week program. I am so grateful that this came to me on my Instagram feed! I am now four months out from when I began the program. I am finding that I still need to do the hypnotherapy sessions at least a few times a week in order to maintain a pain free gut. After all, I have had IBS symptoms for about 70 years, so I understand that a little ongoing support in relaxation is needed. Again, I am grateful that this program is available and effective.

Over 15yrs of IBS with FODMAP sensitivity I've tried many things. After this program I still have trigger foods but my symptoms have greatly reduced. I was disappointed that the breathing exercise was removed from the required daily tasks, as I feel that the diaphragmatic breathing was significant in my health improvement. I recommend others to do it daily. The audio sessions are variable in quality of hypnotic induction, and ADHD folks may initially struggle, plus there's some jarring inconsistencies that autistic brains will bump into. The whistling S's can be quite distracting too. But overall, I recommend breathing through it and sitting through the whole session even if you get mentally derailed. Hopefully they'll eventually fix the bug of the daily star tracker getting confused if a day is missed but the tasks are later caught up. An unexpected side-effect of the change in my nervous system was moderate anhedonia that slipped into depression for a while. I suspect I had some cortisol addiction/functional stress habits, that were disrupted. Some weeks after finishing the course, I'm not depressed but my motivation is still changed. I was also of the firm belief that the cost of the app was going to be AUD200 after the first week trial but my bank account showed it was USD200. If a friend signs up I'll be checking how that's presented. Regardless, the result is satisfying, and I'd tell my past self to justify the extra cost.

So, firstly, use their website to get the app. The trial period is longer that way. The trial was why I gave this a shot. You can do the whole program and if it doesn’t work, they’ll refund you. If it does, the money is worth it. They fully acknowledge that it doesn’t work for everyone but does for a huge amount and this is so generous of them. Honestly, I’m the kind of person who is always in the doesn’t work group so it was a big factor in taking the leap. Anyways, long review ahead but I’m shocked to be proven wrong this time. My symptoms tend towards looser stools but very much still back and forth with constipation. The education and hypnosis has made my urgency managed, my perception of set backs to not be a catastrophe, and my Bristol scale trend towards normal most of time. I have “full evacuations” without “splinting” most of the time (used to always need it) and it seems like my motility has sped up which is what my doctor said was likely slow and worsening symptoms. I was consistent with listening (about 6 days a week) which I know made a difference. I also fully would snap my eyes open at the end of each session with restored energy after feeling limp and fully relaxed. It really focuses on gut specific imagery/guidance, not just relaxation but working to decrease gut sensitivity. I also love that it uses the recordings of the doctor who pioneered the treatment. My main complaints without docking a star: The sessions are a bit repetitive over time. There’s about 10-15 that get cycled through. This in some ways provides a familiarity but also can be annoying when getting the same instructions and occasionally made me feel a bit cheated. I wish it was at least newly recorded. Once I’m in hypnosis mode I can’t really move so I get irritated about it sometimes. Still worth it though. My intense bloating hasn’t really changed which is a huge thing for me. But this points to trying things with my gastroenterologist. The program doesn’t disencourage working with doctors, either. I do wish it was more affordable but ultimately it would’ve cost a lot to do with a practitioner. I’m following up with a gut CBT clinician to really drive things home (covered by insurance) but I don’t regret this at all. I hope I’ll keep at the maintenance sessions as well. Have fallen off a bit but I know it will help. Here’s hoping it lasts. I feel hopeful.
Very helpful and easy to use. Readings are concise and informative. Hypnotherapy / mindfulness sessions very soothing.

The recordings definitely calm me. I really struggle with consistency and routines, so I did not reliably follow the course. But I do use the recordings to help me relax and even to help me go to sleep. They are very effective. The recordings are always about 15 minutes. They are composed of three parts, A+B+C, and they rotate A and B, but C is aleays the same. Part A is the strategy they use to help calm down your body (either a muscle tense and release, a progressive full body relaxation, or a "name 3 things you see, hear, feel"). Part B is the visualization phase where you are prompted to imagine yourself in a park, in a bookstore, in a planty nursery, or several other possibilities. Part C is always the same script, full of encouraging messages about how your digestion will be better in the future. All parts are recorded with the same woman's voice. I find her voice to be extremely soothing, more so than even the Sleep stories on the Calm app, which I also paid for. I wish I could comment on Nerva's effects on my IBS symptoms, but as I said, I unfortunately have not be consistent enough to know what effect it's had. Nerva also includes regularly scheduled readings to provide you with information about your gut's relationship with your brain and overall health. I've read a few, but I wish there was an option to listen to the readings. I get visual migraines so I am averse to spending large quantities of time reading my phone screen. Anyways, great app! Thank you.
So far, so good. Relaxing during sessions
